DELAWARE COUNTY – Indiana State Police Superintendent Anthony Scott announced the promotion of Senior Trooper John Clawson Jr. to Sergeant, and he will be reassigned to General Headquarters to serve as a Recruiter in Employment Services. Sergeant Clawson competed in a promotion process that included a written test, an oral interview, and an overall evaluation of work performance.
Sergeant Clawson is a native of Delaware County, Indiana, and graduated from Yorktown High School in 2009. After graduation, Clawson attended Anderson University. At Anderson University, Clawson was a member of the Anderson University baseball team and studied criminal justice.
In 2012, Sergeant Clawson graduated from the 71st Indiana State Police Recruit Academy and was assigned to the Pendleton District. While at the Pendleton District, Sergeant Clawson was designated to primary patrol in Henry/Wayne counties. After some time, Clawson transferred and patrolled in Delaware, Madison, and Randolph Counties.
During his career, Sergeant Clawson was a member of the Tactical Intervention Platoon Team, Meth Suppression Team, Field Training Officer, and Defensive Tactics Instructor. In 2022, Sergeant Clawson became Director of the Shield Project, a summer program designed to give young adults interested in law enforcement an interactive experience alongside active Indiana State troopers.
In his new role, Sergeant Clawson will advise and administer hiring processes for the Indiana State Police and mentor the next generation of troopers.
Sergeant Clawson currently resides in Delaware County with his wife, Megan, and his two sons, Weston and Luke.
