NEW ORLEANS — The National Liquor Law Enforcement Association has named the Indiana State Excise Police, a division of the Indiana Alcohol and Tobacco Commission, as Agency of the Year.
The Indiana State Excise Police division received the award last evening at the NLLEA’s annual conference in New Orleans. The NLLEA Agency of the Year award is given to an agency that has demonstrated agency effectiveness through the implementation of innovative programs, community and media recognition, and model training programs, practices, and strategies.
“This national award showcases how our state is focused on giving our residents, businesses, and visitors the best law enforcement services in the most effective and efficient ways we can,” said Indiana Governor Mike Braun. “Excise police officers will continue to promote public safety at licensed establishments by working with businesses and community leaders to ensure Indiana remains one of the safest places to live, do business, or visit.”
LLEA will spotlight the Indiana State Excise Police division this week during the conference with a workshop sharing Indiana’s successes with other state and local law enforcement agencies nationwide.
Last year, the NLLEA also named Indiana State Excise Police Officer Adam Buckley as the 2025 Alcohol Law Enforcement Agent of the Year, recognizing his professionalism, investigative skill and courage in high-risk situations, and his work in turning a business plagued by frequent shootings into a compliant and safe operation.
“The men and women of the Indiana State Excise Police deserve this recognition,” said David Miller, Indiana State Excise Police superintendent. “They are diligent in being pro-business focused and remaining education- and public-safety minded in their work in serving the citizens of Indiana.”
