BEDFORD — The City of Bedford Housing Authority has issued a public notice detailing significant changes to its affordable housing programs, including the upcoming closure of its Public Housing Waiting List and the temporary reopening of its Housing Choice Voucher (Section 8) list.

The Housing Authority will officially close its Public Housing Waiting List on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at 4:30 p.m. After this deadline, no new applications for the Public Housing program will be accepted.
Individuals currently on the Public Housing Waiting List will retain their status and continue to be processed according to Housing Authority policies and U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) guidelines.
Section 8 Voucher List Reopens October 1 for First 50 Applicants
In tandem with the Public Housing list closure, the Housing Choice Voucher (Section 8) Waiting List will open on Thursday, October 1, 2026, starting at 9:00 a.m.
The opportunity will be highly limited: the Housing Authority will accept only the first 50 complete applications received, after which the list will immediately close.
Applications will be accepted using two methods beginning at 9:00 a.m. on October 1:
- In Person: Main Office, 1305 K Street, Bedford, IN 47421
- Online: bhabedford.com
Eligibility and Accommodation Details
All applicants must satisfy standard Housing Choice Voucher eligibility requirements. Local officials emphasize that placement on the waiting list does not guarantee immediate housing assistance or voucher issuance, as applicants will be processed in accordance with the agency’s HUD-approved Administrative Plan.
Persons with disabilities who require a reasonable accommodation to participate in the application process are encouraged to contact the Housing Authority directly.
