LEWISVILLE — A pilot training session focusing on conservation drainage and its vital role in improving soil health and water quality is scheduled for Tuesday, December 1.
The event will take place at the Fairholme Farm Lake House in Lewisville, Indiana, running from 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Organized for conservation planning staff, the specialized workshop was originally set for November 3, 2025. Individuals who were previously registered for the November session have been notified regarding the updated date. Organizers note that additional registration spots are available for professionals actively engaged in local and regional conservation planning.
Focus on Water Quality and Soil Health
The interactive training will blend classroom presentation with hands-on field observation. Agenda topics and activities include:
- Conservation Drainage Overview: An introductory look at management practices designed to reduce nutrient loss and improve water retention.
- Research & Impact: Detailed findings on the connection between conservation drainage systems, overall soil health, and local water quality.
- Farmer Perspective: A presentation by the host farmer detailing their personal conservation journey, soil health practices, and experience implementing drainage water management techniques.
- On-Site Field Tour: Guided visits to active field infrastructure, including a drainage water control structure, a woodchip bioreactor, and a blind inlet.
