Muralist selected for the new Indiana Fever Sports Performance Center

INDIANAPOLIS – The Indy Arts Council, in partnership with Pacers Sports & Entertainment and the Indiana Fever, announced today that Alex Ann Allen of South Bend, Indiana, was selected to create a mural on the north wall of the new Indiana Fever Sports Performance Center.

Alex Ann Allen

Allen is a professional traveling muralist with over seven years of full-time experience creating large-scale interior and exterior murals. Working primarily in aerosol and latex, she brings a distinct, recognizable visual style while collaborating with clients and community stakeholders to shape a cohesive theme for each project.

Titled Unity, Legacy, Resilience, Allen’s 40-by-60-foot mural celebrates Indianapolis as a center of women’s professional basketball while paying tribute to the Indiana Fever. The design features Allen’s signature vibrant color palette and layered geometric forms that create a striking sense of depth and movement. Positioned on the building’s prominent north wall, the mural will become a highly visible landmark in downtown Indianapolis.

“Alex Ann Allen brings a unique perspective and creative energy to this project, and we’re excited to see her work come to life at our new performance center,” said Indiana Fever Team President Kelly Krauskopf. “We hope the mural adds something special to the space for our players, staff, and everyone who passes by the facility each day.

Allen was selected through a statewide artist call that attracted 65 applicants. Three finalists were invited and paid to develop concept designs, and more than 2,200 community members shared feedback through a public survey. Allen’s proposal emerged as the clear favorite, with respondents praising its bold color, dynamic movement, and inspiring message.

Ana Escalante

Ana Escalante, a Venezuelan-born, Indianapolis-based artist, was chosen as the artist apprentice to assist and learn from Allen during the mural painting process. Escalante began her artistic journey seven years ago through lettering, sharing her knowledge through online workshops, and inspiring hundreds of people to explore their creativity.

The mural will be painted in fall 2026, with a dedication to follow ahead of the facility’s opening in spring 2027.
