BEDFORD — Time is running out to get your ducks in the race for the annual Ugly Duck Derby, giving residents one more opportunity to support the Boys & Girls Club of Lawrence County while competing for thousands of dollars in prizes.
The Ugly Duck Derby is set for Saturday, Sept. 5, at the John Lowery Municipal Pool, 1625 17th Street in Bedford, with the races beginning at 6 p.m.
“It’s a simple idea with a big impact. Buy a duck, cheer it on, and help create great futures for local kids,” said Ashley Gilstrap, director of resource development with the Boys & Girls Club of Lawrence County.
The Yellow Duck Race will feature up to 10,000 tickets, with a $4,000 grand prize on the line, along with amazing additional prizes.
Yellow Duck tickets are $5 for one, $20 for five, $50 for 13, or $100 for 30.
Participants can also enter the Blue Duck Race, which is limited to 100 tickets. The winning Blue Duck ticket will receive a $2,000 prize. Blue Duck tickets are $100 each.
Each purchased ticket corresponds to a numbered duck. Once the ducks are released into the pool, the first ducks to reach the finish line determine the winning ticket numbers.
The event provides an opportunity for residents to have some fun at no charge, as United Way of South Central Indiana is sponsoring a Free Community Swim Day during the hours before the Ugly Duck Derby begins at 6 p.m.
The Boys & Girls Club provides local youth with a safe place to spend time and offers programs focused on academic success, healthy lifestyles, character development, STEM, arts, athletics and other activities.
The club encourages residents who have not yet purchased their ducks to act quickly as the Sept. 5 race approaches.

With the race just days away, residents have a chance to make their contribution to the Boys & Girls Club, pick their lucky numbers and potentially walk away with one of the event’s big prizes.
