MARTINSVILLE — Law enforcement agencies across Morgan County are searching for a 24-year-old man identified as a person of interest in a fatal late-night shooting in Martinsville.
The Martinsville Police Department and the Morgan County Major Crimes Task Force named Levi Camplin, 24, as a person of interest following a “homicide incident” late Saturday night, August 29.
Authorities say two people were shot during the incident, resulting in one fatality. Police warn members of the public that Camplin should be considered armed and dangerous and advise anyone who spots him not to approach him, but to immediately dial 911.
While investigators initially sought a yellow pickup truck with a black tailgate believed to belong to Camplin, police confirmed the vehicle has since been located abandoned.
Prior Law Enforcement History
This marks the second time since 2020 that Camplin has been implicated as a person of interest in a fatal shooting without being formally named a suspect.
Bargersville and Johnson County authorities previously sought Camplin for questioning following a Christmas Eve shooting in 2020 outside a Circle K gas station on West State Road 144. The botched robbery left two of the alleged accomplices—a 17-year-old and a 20-year-old—dead. A third man involved, Devon McHugh, was wounded and later sentenced to four years in prison for conspiracy to commit robbery.
Detectives interviewed Camplin during that 2020 investigation, but officials noted he provided no actionable details, and public records show he was never formally charged.
