BLOOMINGTON — An investigation into a stolen package led to the arrest of a 33-year-old Bloomington man Thursday evening on multiple felony and misdemeanor charges after state troopers executed a search warrant and uncovered illegal drugs, stolen property, and weapons.
Indiana State Police Trooper Mackenzi Alexander initiated the investigation after receiving a report of an Amazon package stolen from a residence along South Curry Pike. The victim provided law enforcement with a description of the suspect, the getaway vehicle, and a photograph of the vehicle’s license plate.
Trooper Alexander identified the suspect as Kory J. Kleinow, 33, of Bloomington, and located his residence.
Search Warrant Executed
Upon arriving at the property, Troopers Alexander and Curtis Wilder learned that Kleinow and a woman, identified as 28-year-old Tabitha Carpenter of Bloomington, had burned a box near a barn on the premises. Trooper Alexander located the burn pile, which was still warm to the touch.
While on scene, investigating troopers identified a stolen trailer parked on the property and determined Kleinow was still inside the residence. Based on these findings, Trooper Alexander applied for and was granted a residential search warrant.
Troopers from the Bloomington District, assisted by officers from the Ellettsville Police Department, executed the search warrant. Officers discovered Kleinow hiding under a staircase inside insulation, where he was taken into custody without incident.
Drugs, Stolen Property, and Firearms Seized
During the search of the residence and property, law enforcement recovered:
- An electric bicycle previously reported stolen to the Ellettsville Police Department
- A stolen trailer
- Syringes, digital scales, and Naloxone
- Plates covered in a white crystallized substance that tested presumptively positive for methamphetamine
- Prescription legend pills
- Two firearms, including a sawed-off shotgun
Formal Charges
Kleinow was transported to the Monroe County Jail and booked on the following preliminary charges:
- Possession of methamphetamine with enhancement (Level 4 Felony)
- Possession of a narcotic drug with enhancement (Level 5 Felony)
- Possession of a legend drug (Level 6 Felony)
- Illegal possession of a syringe (Level 6 Felony)
- Possession of stolen property/theft/conversion (Level 6 Felony)
- Obstruction of justice (Level 6 Felony)
- Possession of drug paraphernalia, with a prior conviction(Class A Misdemeanor)
- Maintaining a common nuisance (Class B Misdemeanor)
The case remains under active investigation by the Indiana State Police. All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
