David (Dave) Scott Stansbury, 69, adored husband, father, and grandfather, went home to be with his loving Savior on August 7, 2026.
Dave served his God and his family with humility and sincerity and was known to all for his humor and kindness to others. Born on September 24, 1956, in Bedford, Indiana, he was the son of Frank and Connie Stansbury. Growing up, he loved playing basketball and Strat O-Matic, watching the St. Louis Cardinals, and fishing with his dad. Dave accepted Christ as his Savior as a young boy.
At 17 years old, Dave began attending First Assembly of God in Bedford, where he met and fell in love with the pastor’s daughter, Joni Lynette Bruton. The two were high school sweethearts who married in 1982 and shared 44 beautiful years of marriage and life together. Dave and Joni cherished their life together, whether it was spending time with family, traveling the world, admiring creation, or cheering for IU.
Dave and Joni had two children, Kyle and Kandace, who were his pride and joy. Dave loved his role as a father and prioritized spending time with his children. He was a nurturing dad who taught his children by example how to trust God, work hard, stay positive, and find joy in all circumstances. One of Dave’s greatest joys in life was being “Pop” to his grandchildren, Saja and Miriam. He loved making them laugh and creating fun memories for them with trips to Holiday World and Dollar General, elaborate firework shows, boat rides, and teaching them how to fish.
He worked at General Motors for 42 years as a die-cast operator, where he developed many friendships and was passionate about sharing his faith with his co-workers. He retired in 2020 and enjoyed having more time with Joni. In this season, their relationship grew even deeper as they delighted in daily Scripture reading, devotions, and prayer. All his life, Dave boldly shared the gospel with “gentleness and respect” (1 Peter 3:15), with everyone he encountered. He loved discussing the evidence of God found throughout creation, fulfilled prophecies, and the way God’s hand could be seen throughout history. He loved his church family at Tabernacle of Praise. He worshiped faithfully there and served over the years as a board member, youth leader, usher, and security team member.
Dave was incredibly compassionate, kind, generous, and Christ-like. He had a gift for connecting with people and finding common ground with everyone he met. He truly “never knew a stranger.” He had a unique sense of humor, loved to laugh, and truly enjoyed life. He had a way of making everyone feel at ease by taking a genuine interest in their lives, listening intently, and inevitably sharing a funny story.
He is preceded in death by his father, Frank Stansbury, and his mother, Connie Stansbury Mathis.
He leaves behind his loving wife, Joni Stansbury; his children, Kyle (Eleanor) Stansbury and Kandace (Anthony) Lecocq; and his grandchildren, Saja Lecocq and Miriam Gold Lecocq. He also leaves behind his sister-in-law, Jennifer (“Ginger”) Crouch; brother-in-law, Mark Crouch; niece, Jesika (Ryan) Smith; nephew, Jamison (Kayla) Crouch; and their children.
Family and friends will honor and celebrate Dave’s life with a visitation on Friday, August 14th, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Day & Carter Mortuary in Bedford, Indiana, and on Saturday, August 15th, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Tabernacle of Praise in Bedford, Indiana. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, August 15th, at 11:00 a.m. at Tabernacle of Praise with Pastor Gary Thomas officiating. Burial will follow the service at Clover Hill Cemetery in Harrodsburg.
