BEDFORD — A Springville man is facing multiple felony battery charges after allegedly punching his 16-year-old son with enough force to nearly knock him unconscious during a dispute at their home.
Eric Webb, 33, is charged with domestic battery with moderate bodily injury and domestic battery in the presence of a child under 16, both Level 6 felonies.
According to a probable cause affidavit, Lawrence County Sheriff’s Deputy Kyle Long responded to IU Health Bedford around 12:36 a.m. on June 22 after hospital security reported a juvenile receiving treatment for facial injuries.
The teen told officers that the altercation began while he and his mother were trying to break up a fight between family dogs. After the teen made a comment to Webb about not helping, an argument ensued that turned physical.
The victim reported that after gathering his belongings to leave the home, Webb struck him in the side of the face with a closed fist near a bedroom doorway and pulled his hair. Deputy Long noted visible facial injuries, including a swollen eye, bloody nose, and severe redness. Hospital staff advised officers that medical imaging was ordered to evaluate a potential cheekbone fracture.
The teen’s mother confirmed the timeline of the argument and stated she intervened when Webb had hold of the boy’s hair. She noted that other children were present in the home during the altercation.
The Department of Child Services was notified and responded to the hospital to launch a parallel investigation. Case details have been submitted to the Lawrence County Prosecutor’s Office for formal charges.
Those arrested are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
