Bloomington will host Safety Week Aug. 22-28

BLOOMINGTON – The City of Bloomington’s Safety Week will run August 22-28 as part of the ongoing Safe Streets and Roads for All Action Plan – an initiative to improve transportation options and create a safer and more accessible Bloomington.

Safety Week features a series of events designed to gather resident feedback, foster community collaboration, and gather community members together. The week will feature three evening events open to all residents, offering free food and activities for participants of all ages. The schedule is as follows:

  • Tuesday, Aug. 25, from 5 to 7 p.m.: Welcome Week Community Bike Tour — a slow-paced, guided group ride for new residents, students, community members, and anyone interested in biking. Participants will meet others, explore comfortable bike routes around Bloomington, and enjoy a community ride starting and ending on IU’s campus. A limited number of bikes are available to borrow if you register in advance here.
  • Wednesday, Aug. 26, from 4 to 6 p.m.: “Traffic Cones” at The Chocolate Moose, 405 S. Walnut St. — stop by the Planning and Transportation Department table to discuss your thoughts on safe streets initiatives and receive free ice cream.
  • Thursday, Aug. 27, from 5 to 7 p.m.: Kidical Mass: Back to School Bike Ride and Celebration — a back-to-school bike celebration featuring treats, games, helmet decoration, bike-blended smoothies, and more before a family-friendly guided bike ride around the Bryan Park neighborhood. A limited number of kids’ bikes are available to borrow if you register in advance here

In addition to the evening slate of events, the City will host pop-up booths at several locations throughout the city. Neighbors are invited to stop by for a brief, interactive survey question.
