MARTINSVILLE — A high-speed multi-county pursuit ended in an arrest Tuesday night, August 4, 2026, after a man allegedly shot someone in Martinsville before fleeing toward Indianapolis on Interstate 465.
The violence broke out at approximately 6:15 p.m. in the 400 block of South Home Avenue, located just west of the Martinsville High School athletic fields.
First responders provided emergency medical care at the scene before medics transported the gunshot victim to an Indianapolis hospital for treatment. Following the shooting, 911 callers and the injured victim were able to identify the suspect and provide responding officers with a detailed vehicle description and direction of travel.
Shortly after the dispatch call, a Martinsville police officer spotted the suspect’s vehicle near Interstate 69 and Henderson Ford Road. Officers alongside Morgan County Sheriff’s deputies attempted a traffic stop on I-69 just north of State Road 144, but the driver refused to yield and accelerated away.
The fleeing driver led law enforcement northbound on I-69 and eastbound onto I-465. Surveillance cameras operated by the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) monitored the pursuit as it entered Marion County.
The suspect eventually abandoned his vehicle near the Emerson Avenue interchange on I-465 and attempted to flee on foot into the surrounding area. Following a coordinated search, officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) located the suspect and took him into custody in neighboring Beech Grove.
Authorities confirmed that the suspect is in custody and there is no ongoing danger to the public. The shooter’s name has not been released. The Morgan County Major Crimes Task Force has taken the lead on the active investigation.
