INDIANAPOLIS – Indiana State Police Detectives from the Indianapolis Post are investigating an apparent interstate shooting on I-70 near downtown Indianapolis.
Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at approximately 10:54 a.m. Indiana State Police Dispatchers were notified of a person shot on I-70 eastbound near the 84.1 mile marker, just west of the Rural / Keystone Exit. An officer from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department was on scene within moments of the incident. He found a man outside of a silver Dodge Charger with an injury consistent with a gunshot wound. That officer applied a tourniquet to the injured person’s leg and provided other life-saving aid. The Indianapolis Fire Department, along with IEMS, responded; the man was transported by ambulance to a local hospital in stable condition.Â
Indiana State Police Detectives responded to the scene to investigate the incident. Preliminary information has led investigators to believe the man who was shot was a passenger in a silver Dodge Charger. The gunfire allegedly came from someone inside another vehicle driving on I-70. At this time, detectives are following several leads and reviewing cameras in the area. They are asking anyone who may have witnessed this incident, or has a vehicle equipped with a dash camera that was in the area of I-70 eastbound east of downtown around 10:45 this morning, to please contact the Indiana State Police or Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana.
