GREENE COUNTY — State and local law enforcement officers are investigating the death of an unidentified man whose body was discovered inside a vehicle parked along Interstate 69 in Greene County on Friday morning.
Detectives with the Indiana State Police (ISP) and the Greene County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene on July 31 after the vehicle was reported along the northbound lanes between mile markers 94 and 94.5, located south of the Monroe County line.
The vehicle appeared to have been parked on the shoulder for at least two days before emergency crews arrived.
By Friday morning, multiple law enforcement vehicles, two fire trucks, and an ambulance had surrounded the vehicle. An ISP crime scene investigator and the Greene County Coroner were also dispatched to assist detectives with the preliminary death investigation. The vehicle was subsequently impounded and towed from the scene.
ISP Sgt. Kevin Getz confirmed that an unidentified male was located deceased inside the vehicle. Greene County Coroner’s Office will conduct an autopsy to determine the official cause and manner of death, as well as to assist in identifying the deceased.
As of Sunday morning, authorities have not released the man’s identity, pending identification and family notification, nor have they detailed any potential circumstances surrounding his death. ISP officials emphasized that the investigation remains active and open.
