INDIANA — The technology job market may be experiencing layoffs, but employers continue to seek workers with specialized technical skills. A recent analysis of nearly 850,000 U.S. tech job postings from January 2025 through March 2026 found hiring surged in early 2026, with the first quarter accounting for 39% of all listings analyzed.
The report shows employers are prioritizing cloud computing, software development and infrastructure skills over many of the technologies that dominate online discussions.

Amazon Web Services (AWS) was the most requested technology, appearing in 30% of job postings. Microsoft Azure followed at 24%, with Git at 21%. Other frequently requested tools included Excel, Google Cloud Platform (GCP), Kubernetes, Docker, Power BI, Terraform and Tableau.

Nearly 42% of job postings required experience with AWS, Azure or GCP, highlighting the growing importance of cloud computing across the technology industry. Employers also commonly looked for candidates with experience in multiple cloud platforms, particularly AWS and Azure.

Cloud and infrastructure tools made up nearly half of all technology requirements in the study, followed by DevOps tools such as Git, Docker, Kubernetes and Terraform. Business intelligence tools like Power BI and Tableau remained important, while specialized data pipeline tools were required less frequently.
Software engineering represented the largest share of job openings, followed by data science, artificial intelligence, engineering management, DevOps and business intelligence roles. Skill requirements varied by position, but cloud platforms consistently ranked among the most sought-after qualifications.
Where the Jobs Are
Technology, data and telecommunications companies accounted for 45% of all postings, with professional services, manufacturing and finance also hiring for technical roles.

California posted the most technology jobs, followed by Texas and New York. Virginia also stood out due to its large concentration of data centers and cloud infrastructure jobs.
