BLOOMINGTON — Local dogs will have their turn in the water as Bloomington Parks and Recreation hosts its annual “Drool in the Pool” event at Mills Pool on Wednesday, Aug. 5, and Thursday, Aug. 6.
The two-day event offers four-legged residents an opportunity to swim, play with toys, and participate in contests before the pool closes for the season. General admission runs from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. both evenings at a cost of $5 per dog, with a limit of one dog per person.
For owners seeking a less crowded experience, a VIP Hour is available from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. each day for $30 per dog. Limited to the first 20 dogs per session, VIP access includes entry to cleaner water, a complimentary gift bag, digital photos taken by a professional photographer, and admission to the main event following the hour.
To maintain safety and health standards, strict requirements are enforced for all canine participants:
- Vaccination Verification: Owners must present written proof from a veterinarian showing a current rabies vaccination. Animal control officers will inspect documentation on-site, and rabies tags alone will not be accepted.
- Eligibility Requirements: Dogs must be at least six months old, spayed or neutered, well-behaved, and non-aggressive.
- Leash Policy: Non-retractable leashes are required when dogs are not in the water.
- Human Rules: Humans are not permitted in the pool during the event.
In addition to swimming, the event will feature vendor tables from local pet-related businesses and organizations. The event is presented in partnership with Mad 4 My Dog, along with local sponsors including House of Paws Grooming and The Dog House.
