BLOOMINGTON — United Way of South Central Indiana is partnering with Hoosier Alley Entertainment to host “Play With a Purpose,” a family-focused community fundraiser aimed at supporting local working families living paycheck to paycheck.
The event will take place Thursday, Aug. 6, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Hoosier Alley, located at 2424 S. Walnut St. in Bloomington.
Attendees will receive free access to laser tag, bumper cars, and roller skating throughout the evening. In addition, Hoosier Alley will donate a portion of the night’s proceeds directly to United Way, including:
- 50% of all bowling rentals
- 50% of all axe throwing rentals
- 10% of all food sales
Suggested donations will also be collected at the door.
Funds raised during the event will support programs designed to improve financial stability, youth opportunity, and health across six south-central Indiana counties: Brown, Greene, Lawrence, Monroe, Orange, and Owen.
According to United Way, nearly half of families in south-central Indiana are categorized as ALICE — Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed. These households earn above the federal poverty level but struggle to afford basic necessities such as housing, child care, food, and transportation, leaving them one emergency away from financial instability.
“Every game played helps open doors to youth opportunity, financial stability, and healthy communities for local ALICE families — our neighbors who are working hard but still struggling to get by,” the organization said.
