INCAP Institute launches five-week civic engagement challenge focused on state and federal budgets

INDIANA — The Indiana Community Action Program (INCAP) Institute is kicking off its “Summer of Action” with a new five-week civic engagement challenge starting August 31, aimed at equipping Indiana residents with the tools and knowledge needed to advocate on state and federal budget policy.

The issue-neutral program is designed to help participants navigate the policy landscape, connect with elected officials, and develop practical advocacy skills regardless of the specific issues or political causes they support.

Program Structure and Schedule

Beginning Monday, August 31, participants will gather weekly via Zoom for interactive sessions led by #TeamInstitute staff members:

  • Weekly Zoom Calls: Every Monday at 5:30 p.m., organizers will host a 15-minute mini-lesson introducing a new advocacy skill or key information regarding current policymakers and budget updates.
  • Interactive Q&A: The live Zoom format allows attendees to ask questions, discuss policy concepts, and network with fellow civically engaged Hoosiers. Recordings will be sent out following each call for those unable to attend live.
  • Weekly Challenges: After each lesson, participants will be assigned a practical challenge to put their new skills into practice.

Participation and Weekly Prizes

To complete each weekly challenge, participants will submit their responses using an online form by the following Wednesday.

As an added incentive, every participant who successfully submits a completed challenge will be entered into a weekly prize drawing.

The program is open to the public and welcomes individuals of all experience levels who are interested in policy and civic involvement.
