SHOALS — East Fork Water, Inc. has issued a boil water advisory for select customers in Martin County following a recent disruption in water service.
The advisory affects East Fork Water customers living along Bucks Knob Lane, Grafton Lane, and Killion Mill Road who experienced a loss of water pressure or service interruption.
According to the utility, the boil order is effective immediately and will remain in place for the next few days until testing confirms the water is safe for consumption.
Precautionary Guidelines for Affected Residents
During a boil advisory, water main pressure drops can allow contaminants to enter the distribution system. To protect public health, utility officials recommend taking the following precautions:
- Boil Water Before Use: Bring tap water to a vigorous, rolling boil for at least three minutes before using it. Allow the water to cool completely and store it in a clean, covered container in the refrigerator.
- Specific Household Uses: Use boiled or bottled water for all human consumption, including:
- Drinking and ice making
- Brushing teeth
- Washing fruits and vegetables
- Preparing food, infant formula, or diluting juices
- Washing dishes (unless using a dishwasher with a high-temp sanitize cycle)
- Bottled Water Alternative: Using commercially packaged bottled water is a safe and convenient alternative during the advisory period.
The advisory will stand until testing verifies that the water meets all state and federal drinking water safety standards. Utility crews will notify customers once water sample lab results clear and the boil order is officially lifted.
