BEDFORD — The Lawrence County Board of Commissioners approved the transfer of five parcels of unused county right of way along Tripleton Pike to adjoining property owners during its meeting Tuesday morning.
County Attorney Dave Smith presented the deeds for approval, explaining that the Lawrence County surveyor had determined the county no longer needed portions of the right of way for road maintenance.
“The County Surveyor recently notified the board of commissioners that along Tripleton Pike, there are portions of the right of way that aren’t really required anymore for road maintenance,” Smith said. “There are five specific descriptions that the surveyor has provided, and he has asked that we convey the portions of the right of way that we don’t need back to the adjoining landowners.”
The commissioners unanimously approved the conveyance of the deeds.
Commissioner Rodney Fish said the action corrects a longstanding property issue affecting several homeowners.
“This has created a problem for these folks,” Fish said. “Part of their yard wasn’t deeded properly to the location of the homes. So this just merely transfers their front yards back to their original deeds.”
The action returns ownership of the unused right-of-way parcels to the adjacent property owners, resolving deed discrepancies while removing land the county no longer requires for roadway purposes.
