4-H Club to host 4th Annual FREE Science & Technology Camp

LAWRENCE COUNTY – Superior STEAM is a year-long youth development program dedicated to teaching Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics (STEAM) through FIRSTĀ® Robotics and other hands-on lessons, activities, and competitions. Superior STEAM was founded in 2019 to give kids ages 6 18 the opportunity to learn personal and technical skills through the FIRST Robotics programs and other hands-on, STEAM-related lessons and activities. While technical skills, like building and programming, are important for STEAM, we—being part of 4-H and FIRST Robotics—know the importance of personal skills like communication and teamwork.

To accomplish that mission, we host several Annual Pipeline Programs (APPs) that are created and run by the student members of the Club. The 4th Annual STEAM Week is a FREE, week-long camp that has several workshops for youth to experience what the club does year- round. The camp takes place July 27th through July 31st, 5-8 pm at the Danny and Sandy Daugherty Center for STEAM Excellence in Bedford. Each night of the week, there will be a new set of activities for attendees to participate in.

This year’s STEAM Week centers around animals, ecosystems, habitats, and how technology can impact our surroundings. Each student will be assigned an animal and learn about that animal throughout the week. They will also learn about Indiana’s local ecosystems. There are 12 total activities. These activities link technology to the students’ assigned animal and habitat. Students will also learn about passionate environmental experts like Steven Irwin and Jane Goodall.
