BEDFORD — Summer at the Boys & Girls Club is off to a roaring start, as local youth dive into a diverse lineup of activities designed to keep them active, engaged, and learning through the vacation months.
Club officials released a program update highlighting a balanced blend of traditional summer camp excitement and robust academic enrichment. Members have hit the ground running with hands-on STEM challenges, creative arts and crafts, outdoor recreational play, and instructional cooking activities.

According to leadership, the programming is structured to give every child a chance to explore new ideas, build lasting friendships, and develop foundational skills in a supportive environment.
Combating the ‘Summer Slide’
A cornerstone of this year’s seasonal programming is the Summer Learning Labs. Recognizing that students can lose critical academic ground when away from the classroom for an extended period, the Club has made year-round learning a top priority.

During the morning sessions, Club members work directly with certified teachers. These instructional blocks focus heavily on targeted literacy and math activities specifically engineered to keep young minds sharp and combat “summer slide”—the well-documented learning loss that often occurs over the summer break.
Balancing Camp and Classroom
By bridging the gap between classroom curriculum and summer camp recreation, the program aims to ensure that local youth return to school in the fall feeling confident, prepared, and ready to succeed academically.

Club leadership expressed deep gratitude to the community partners, donors, and staff who make these comprehensive summer opportunities possible for area youth, noting that the combination of fun, friendship, and education creates a truly memorable summer experience.
