BEDFORD — Lawrence County Highway Superintendent Brian Sowder has issued an updated status report on several major infrastructure projects across the county, noting that extreme summer heat and recent severe weather have forced crews to adjust their timelines.
Paving Progress: Briarwood and Greer Lane
Locals living in or traveling through the Briarwood addition have experienced a shift in the local paving schedule. Due to recent intense heat advisories, the paving timeline was pushed back. To protect county workers in the dangerous heat, crews have been working in shorter intervals to wrap up the project.
Paving operations in Briarwood Addition are officially wrapping up, after which crews will immediately mobilize and move heavy equipment to begin work on Greer Lane. The road will be closed for two days for paving due to the intense heat.
The Lawrence County Highway Department urges all residents to watch for flaggers, expect minor delays on Greer Lane and Boone Hollow Road, and use extreme caution around heavy machinery and county personnel working in the high heat.
Stars Boulevard Bridge Set for Next Week
Progress remains steady on the Stars Boulevard bridge project. Crews will complete the critical concrete deck pour this week. The bridge will have a mandatory seven-day curing period, which ensures the concrete reaches maximum structural strength before handling traffic. Barring any further weather interruptions, the bridge is on track to reopen to traffic next week.
Boone Hollow Road Bridge Infrastructure Work
Superintendent Sowder also shared updates on the Boone Hollow Road bridge project. Maintenance crews are currently on-site, chipping away old, deteriorated concrete from the structural rebar. This essential process safely prepares the framework before crews can lay down a brand-new bridge deck.
