INDIANA — Drivers across Indiana are finding welcome relief at the pump this week as average gasoline prices have plummeted 11.7 cents per gallon over the last seven days. According to the latest GasBuddy survey of 3271 stations across the state, Hoosiers are now paying an average of $3.20 per gallon for regular unleaded.

The steep drop marks a substantial shift from the volatile price surges seen earlier this year. Indiana pump prices now sit a staggering 51.5 cents per gallon lower than just one month ago and are 3.4 cents per gallon lower than the same time last year.
The widespread relief comes at the tail end of a highly turbulent week on global energy markets. Fresh military strikes traded between the United States and Iran threatened to send crude oil markets into a tailspin. However, a last-minute agreement to halt hostilities on Sunday averted a catastrophic spike in crude prices, allowing retail fuel markets to continue their downward trajectory.

“Average gasoline prices fell in 46 states over the last week, with diesel declining in 49, pushing the national average to its lowest level since mid-March,” said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy.
De Haan noted that while GasBuddy anticipates the national average will continue drifting lower, the landscape ahead of the July 4 holiday remains highly unpredictable. “A handful of price-cycling states could see prices jump ahead of the July 4 holiday… but the fragile nature of the U.S.-Iran situation means the outlook could shift quickly.”
While the state average sits at $3.20 per gallon, a massive $2.30 spread exists between Indiana’s lowest and highest retail prices. According to real-time spotter reports:
- Cheapest Station in Indiana: $2.79 per gallon
- Most Expensive Station in Indiana: $5.09 per gallon
Regionally, price relief varies heavily depending on local market dynamics and whether municipal stations have “cycled” their prices:
| Metro Area / Region | Average Price Per Gallon | Weekly Change |
| Indianapolis, IN | $3.12 | Down 17.3 cents |
| Cincinnati, OH | $3.71 | Up 9.4 cents |
| Champaign, IL | $3.86 | Down 15.7 cents |
Historical Perspective
The current state average of $3.20 per gallon highlights a remarkable stabilization compared to the record-shattering energy crisis of 2022, though the national average remains elevated due to the broader context of this year’s geopolitical friction.
A five-year lookback at June 29 fuel prices illustrates the volatility:
- 2025: Indiana: $3.24/g | U.S. Avg: $3.14/g
- 2024: Indiana: $3.59/g | U.S. Avg: $3.48/g
- 2023: Indiana: $3.37/g | U.S. Avg: $3.51/g
- 2022: Indiana: $4.96/g | U.S. Avg: $4.85/g
- 2021: Indiana: $3.10/g | U.S. Avg: $3.12/g
Nationally, the average price of regular gasoline fell 6.9 cents over the past week to $3.78 per gallon—down 55.6 cents from last month, but still 64.2 cents higher than one year ago. The data is aggregated from more than 11 million weekly transactional and spotter reports across 150,000 U.S. stations.
Meanwhile, commercial truckers and logistics operators are also seeing relief. The national average price of diesel dropped 11.4 cents over the last week, landing at $4.876 per gallon.
Motorists in non-cycling states can expect continued drops through the week, provided the fragile international peace holds.
