Daikin recalls 13,500+ Amana air conditions over fire and burn hazards

INDIANA — Daikin Comfort Technologies Manufacturing, Inc. has issued a nationwide recall for approximately 13,514 Amana brand air conditioners and heat pumps due to a defect that poses serious risks of fire and burn injuries.

The recall, officially announced on June 25, 2026, impacts both Window-Room and Through-the-Wall units. According to federal safety officials, the hazard stems from an electrical glitch known as a ground fault. If a ground fault occurs, the unit’s heating element can stay energized and continuously generate heat—even if the machine is completely turned off. Because the risk is present anytime the unit is plugged into an outlet, it can cause the internal components and surrounding plastic to melt or catch fire.

To date, Daikin has received one confirmed report of a unit’s plastic frame melting. No injuries have been reported so far.

Affected Models and Sales Information

The recall covers 11 specific white-colored Amana models sold through direct sales and authorized heating and cooling dealers nationwide between April 2025 and December 2025. The units retailed for between $850 and $1,500.

While these units are available for residential use, they are most commonly installed in commercial spaces, hotels, and apartment complexes. All affected model numbers begin with the letters PB, AH, or AE, and can be found on a white sticker located on the front edge of the unit’s base pan.

The specific models included in the recall are:

  • Through-the-Wall (TTW) Heat Pumps: PBH113J35AA, PBH093J35AA, PBH073J35AA
  • Through-the-Wall (TTW) Air Conditioners: PBE123J35AA, PBE093J35AA

What Consumers and Property Managers Should Do

Safety officials urge all consumers, landlords, and hotel operators to stop using the recalled units immediately and unplug them from the wall.

Daikin is offering a full refund for all affected products. To claim a refund, owners must disable the unit by cutting the power cord, and then upload a photo of the cut cord alongside the unit’s serial number to the company’s dedicated recall portal.
