Mitchell Parks & Recreation seeks donations for new inclusive playground project

MITCHELL — Mitchell Parks & Recreation has officially announced the launch of the Mitchell Playground Project, a community-driven initiative aimed at building an inclusive playground where children of all abilities can play side by side.

The project aims to break down the physical and social barriers often found at traditional recreational areas. For families of children with physical, sensory, or developmental challenges, standard playground equipment can frequently create obstacles rather than opportunities. Limited mobility caused by certain ground surfaces and difficult-to-access equipment often leaves some children excluded from outdoor play.

“We believe every child deserves a place to play—together,” Mitchell Parks & Recreation stated in the project’s launch announcement.

As of today, currently, $6,810 has been raised of the needed $50,000.

More Than Just Accessibility

Project organizers emphasize that an inclusive playground is about much more than just meeting basic accessibility standards. It serves as a powerful statement that every single member of the Mitchell community matters.

Recreational play is vital to a child’s development, supporting physical health, emotional growth, creativity, and crucial social skills. By creating a space where children of all distinct abilities interact, the playground will help the community’s youth naturally learn empathy, cooperation, and deeper understanding.

The success of the Mitchell Playground Project relies heavily on grassroots community support to create a welcoming environment that will serve local families for generations to come.

Residents, local business owners, and civic organizations are being asked to help bring the inclusive park to life in two ways:

  • Financial Contributions: If you are able, please consider making a direct monetary donation to the playground fund.
  • Spreading the Word: Help build momentum for the initiative by sharing the fundraising campaign with friends, family, and neighbors across social media.
