Obituary: Michael D. Boruff

April 13, 1944 – June 19, 2026

Michael D. Boruff, of Bedford, Indiana, passed away at home on Friday, June 19, 2026.

Mike was born in Linton, Indiana, to Wayne and Dorothy (Liddil) Boruff, who preceded him in death. Mike was a graduate of Odon Madison Schools. While in high school, Mike excelled both in academics and athletics. He was a member of the cross country, basketball, and baseball teams. While in high school, he met Carole “Sue” Sowers, and they formed an unbreakable bond that would last a lifetime. Mike and Sue were married in Washington, Indiana, on May 19, 1961, and began their life together. Their marriage
spanned 65 years.

Hard work and a drive for independence were important to Mike from an early age. His first job was mowing yards at age 12 to earn money for a new bike. He also had two newspaper routes, delivering papers for The Grit and the Washington Herald. After high school, he took a job with the Colonial Baking Company, where he worked for 4 years.

While there, he saw an opportunity to get into the sales side of the food industry, and over the course of his career, he spent 26 years with SCM Glidden Durkee Corporation and 14 years with Kraft Foods as a sales representative. Mike retired in 2007 after a long career, but continued to work part-time for Bedford Ford as part of the transport services team.

Mike took great pride in his work and earned several awards for his commitment, success, and drive. Mike continued his love of sports as an adult, participating in basketball and soft-pitch softball tournaments and leagues for many years. He was a member of Mt. Pleasant Christian Church, where he greeted everyone with a smile and great conversation, usually involving sports or work of some kind.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents and his three sisters, Judy Ainscough, Becky Lagenour, and Debbie Fleming.

Surviving to cherish his memory are his wife, Sue of Bedford; two sons, Bret A. (Christine) Boruff of Camby, Indiana, Troy L. (Karen) Boruff of Bedford; a daughter, Tina D. Boruff of Bedford; grandchildren, Trent (Allison) Boruff of Mitchell, Alexis (Jaylin Burgess) Boruff of Indianapolis; bonus grandchildren, Wesley (Kirsten) Ryan of Camby, and Steven Ryan of Bedford; several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and his beloved dog Sadie.

A private, graveside service will be held following cremation. Friends and family are invited to drop in between 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m., for an open house celebration of life on Friday, July 17, 2026, at Mt. Pleasant Christian Church fellowship hall (enter through door #2).
