MITCHELL — The Mitchell Community Schools Board of Trustees has released official public notices scheduling two back-to-back meetings, including a special voting session and a closed executive meeting, on Tuesday, July 7, 2026.
Both sessions will take place at the Mitchell Community Schools Administration Center, located at 441 North 8th Street in Mitchell.
5:00 p.m. – Special Session
The school board will first convene at 5:00 p.m. for a special public session. According to the published agenda, the trustees are meeting for a singular primary objective:
- Review and vote to approve a Food Services Management Company for the school district.
5:30 p.m. – Closed Executive Session
Immediately following the conclusion of the special session, the board will transition into an executive session, tentatively scheduled to begin at approximately 5:30 p.m.
In strict compliance with the Indiana Open Door Law, the board has cited the specific statutory reasons for closing this portion of the meeting to the general public. No official votes or final actions can be taken during an executive session. The designated agenda items are:
- Litigation Strategy: To discuss strategy with respect to the initiation of litigation, or litigation that is currently pending or has been threatened specifically in writing. (Indiana Code § 5-14-1.5-6.1(b)(2)(B))
- Attorney-Client Counsel: To engage in communications with an attorney that are subject to the attorney-client privilege. (Indiana Code § 5-14-1.5-6.1(b)(19))
The decisions will be overseen by the current five-member Board of Trustees. The sitting elected officials, and their current terms of service, include:
| Trustee | Status | Term Timeline |
|---|---|---|
| Chris Shaw | Elected Official | Jan. 1, 2023 – Dec. 31, 2026 |
