BEDFORD — Normal water usage can officially resume for a portion of Lawrence County. The East Lawrence Water Authority announced Thursday afternoon that the precautionary Boil Water Advisory for residents and businesses along State Road 58 East has been lifted, effective immediately.
The advisory impacted all water customers situated along State Road 58 East, spanning from North Shawswick Station Road to Maple Leaf Road.
According to utility officials, the order was lifted after a series of rigorous water quality tests confirmed that the water meets all safe drinking water standards, ensuring it is entirely free of harmful bacteria.
The water authority had initially issued the precautionary directive following a temporary disruption in the distribution system, which can cause a drop in water pressure and increase the risk of bacterial contamination.
In a brief statement accompanying the announcement, the East Lawrence Water Authority expressed gratitude to the community for its patience, stating, “We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.”
With the order rescinded, affected customers no longer need to boil their water before consumption, cooking, or making ice. However, utility experts generally recommend that residents in a recently affected zone run their cold water taps for one to two minutes to flush out any residual air or sediment from their home plumbing before regular use.
