LAKE COUNTY – A traffic stop on Interstate 80/94 in Lake County early Monday morning resulted in the arrest of three adults after Indiana State Police troopers discovered two loaded firearms and suspected marijuana inside a vehicle carrying a young child.
At approximately 1:13 a.m. on June 15, Trooper Jace Haddon clocked a gray Ford Fusion traveling 90 mph with no registration eastbound on I-80/94 near Indianapolis Blvd. After stopping the vehicle, troopers observed suspicious movements from the occupants and detected a strong odor of marijuana. The vehicle contained three adults and a juvenile in a child safety seat.
During a lawful search, troopers located a loaded Glock 43x hidden behind a loose trim panel in the front passenger area. A second firearm, a loaded Glock 27 with an extended magazine, was found directly under the child in the safety seat. The handgun had a round in the chamber and no external safety. Troopers also located multiple bags of suspected marijuana. A field test later confirmed the substance to be marijuana.
All three adults were taken into custody and transported to the Lake County Jail. The child was safely released to a family member. Preliminary charges submitted to the Lake County Prosecutor’s Office include the following:
