Indiana Fire and Public Safety Training Academy announces 2027 Winter Fire School; Issues call for proposals

PLAINFIELD The Indiana Fire and Public Safety Training Academy has officially announced the dates for its fourth annual Winter Fire School, which will return to Plainfield early next year.

The three-day training event is scheduled to take place from Friday, January 29, through Sunday, January 31, 2027. The event will be hosted at the MADE@Plainfield facility, located at 1610 Reeves Road.

While all educational courses will be offered completely free of charge to registered students, academy officials note that lodging will not be provided.

Over its first three years, the Winter Fire School has grown into a major hub for emergency personnel, drawing hundreds of students from dozens of fire departments across the state to learn industry best practices. Attendees participate in a mix of free classroom instruction and specialized, hands-on training exercises.

Call for Course Proposals

In preparation for the 2027 session, organizers have officially opened a call for seminar proposals. The academy is seeking presentations that explore forward-looking challenges and opportunities within the fire and emergency services sector. Organizers are particularly interested in submissions that demonstrate how evidence-based approaches can successfully guide policy, training, innovation, and daily practice across the fire service.

Proposals are being accepted across a wide range of relevant topics, including but not limited to:

  • Emerging Risks: Adapting to new hazards and evolving in response to challenges.
  • Data-Driven Operations: Utilizing data to inform critical decision-making.
  • Resource Innovation: New strategies in training, staffing, and equipment deployment.
  • Tactical Skills: Advanced fireground tactics.
  • Leadership: Organizational development and leadership growth.
  • Local Agency Support: Evidence-based practices tailored specifically to rural and volunteer fire departments.
