Kent Emerson Ramey, 56, of Mitchell, passed away on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at his residence.
Born February 1, 1970, in Bedford, he was the son of Max and Molly Elizabeth (Mannix) Ramey.
Kent was a 1988 graduate of Mitchell High School and received a bachelor’s degree from Indiana State University. He was a Health and P.E. teacher at Mitchell High School and was a favorite of many students. He played college basketball at Wabash Valley College in Mt. Carmel, IL.
Survivors include his brothers, Richard Scott (Linda) Ramey of Clermont, Florida, and Kurt Thomas Ramey of Beech Grove; and niece, Chloe Grace Ramey.
His parents, sister, Susan Ramey Johnson, and brother, Donovan Glen Ramey, preceded him in death.
Cremation has been chosen with burial at a later date at Mitchell Cemetery. Family, friends, and former students are invited to the Mitchell Community Building on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. to share memories and stories and celebrate Kent’s life.
Kent was a big fan of all types of music and especially enjoyed Led Zeppelin, John Prine, and Wilco.
