Obituary: Cecil “Paul” Baker

January 1, 1933 – June 6, 2026

Cecil “Paul” Baker, 93, of Owensburg, passed away peacefully at his home on June 6, 2026, at 5:35 p.m., surrounded by his adoring family.

Paul was born on January 2, 1933, to Frank and Ruby (Wagner) Baker. On July 28, 1956, he married Anna Powell, and they were just a few weeks shy of celebrating their 70th wedding anniversary.

Family was the center of Paul’s life and his greatest source of pride. He and Anna raised three daughters, Paula James (Donnie), the late Sherri Howell (Tom), and Cindy Baker.

His grandchildren, whom he spoiled rotten, include Dawn Hostetter (Robbie), Jason James (Dara), Courtney Williams (Kirk), and Derek Baker (Emily). He was also blessed with great-grandchildren, Rylan and Kenli Sullivan, Jake and Jobey James, Jaxon and Sydney Latimer, Brynlee Williams, Jensen Baker, and Farrah and Penny Hostetter.

Paul loved his family more than anything in this world. Nothing made him happier than spending time with them.

Paul proudly served his country as a combat veteran in the United States Army during the Korean War. Following his military service, Paul began a career at Crane, where he worked assembling firearms and supporting the nation’s defense. He retired at the young age of 55, but retirement did not slow
him down.

To stay busy, Paul began a second career with Eastern Greene Schools, where he worked in both the maintenance and custodial departments. He made many lifelong friends during his time there.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Sherri; his son-in-law, Tom; and his parents-in-law, Rupert and Martha Swango.

Graveside funeral services will be held at the Owensburg Cemetery at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 11th, with Brother Jerel Clanney officiating.

Papaw will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. We are so very blessed to have had him as our husband, dad, papaw, brother, and friend. And in the words he often said about those he loved most, “He sure was a dandy.”
