Lawrence County Museum celebrates success during Limestone Heritage Festival

BEDFORD The Lawrence County Museum enjoyed tremendous participation and a highly successful weekend of events during the annual Limestone Heritage Festival.

Local author Roger Moon was on hand at the museum to meet with visitors, sign books, and sell copies of his newest publication, Newsmakers 250: 1776–2026 of Lawrence and Orange Counties. Festival attendees appreciated the opportunity to visit with Moon and learn more about the influential figures who have helped shape the region’s deep history.

Celebrating Limestone and Community Talent

Inside the museum’s meeting room, museum board and staff member Jeff Routh hosted the highly anticipated Limestone Heritage Festival Photo Contest exhibit.

The display featured an array of outstanding photograph entries highlighting limestone in:

  • Architecture: Showcasing the intricate ways the stone anchors local structures.
  • Nature: Highlighting the raw beauty of regional quarry environments and natural formations.
  • Everyday Life: Capturing the cultural significance of Lawrence County’s most famous natural resource.

Looking Ahead to America’s 250th Birthday

To celebrate the nation’s upcoming semiquincentennial milestone, Museum Curator Marla Jones led a patriotic eagle craft activity that welcomed guests of all ages. Participants enjoyed crafting their own symbolic keepsakes while learning about the preparations for America’s landmark 250th anniversary.

The museum staff and leadership were delighted by the enthusiastic response from residents and regional visitors throughout the festival. The organization extends its sincere thanks to everyone who attended, participated, and volunteered to help make the festive weekend such a memorable success.
