INDIANAPOLIS – With a monster throw from some burrito power, Bedford North Lawrence senior Tripp Stahl cemented his place in program history.

Stahl climbed on the podium with a toss of 58-10.75 while finishing seventh in the state meet during the IHSAA championships at North Central on Saturday night. He earned All-State status and won a state medal with the longest throw of his career.

With the third throw in the series of six attempts, after waiting out the second weather delay of the meet, Stahl came within a foot of the school record of Jeremiah Zollman (59-10.75, set when he finished second in 2010). But he reached his goal of earning All-State honors in his final meet.

”I’m on cloud nine,” Stahl said. “Coming into the season, I had a list of things to accomplish, and I accomplished it, got the medal around my neck and stood on the podium. I can’t explain how I feel in words.”

During the delay, Stahl passed some time by placing a Door Dash order (definitely a new-world occurrence) for a delivery at the track gate, and he consumed a steak burrito. Following the snack and the rest, he was prepared for his career-best throw.

”As we were warming up after the delay, I found the feel I was working for,” he said. “That was a huge throw. The delay could cause harm, but it hit everyone.”

Churubusco’s Westen Ott won the state title with a throw of 65-2.

Stahl finished 21st in the discus with a throw of 152-11.

In the 300 low hurdles, BNL’s Luke Morris finished 24th with time of 41.24.

Bloomington North won the team title with 39 points. BNL tied for 61st with three points.
