ORLEANS — The Orleans American Legion Post #69 has stepped forward with two major financial contributions to support the town’s most cherished community traditions, giving back more than $3,500 to local event funds.

Legion Commander Ron Taylor and Legion member Will Terry recently met with Orleans Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Robert F. Henderson to present a check for just over $1,500. The funds represent the Legion’s traditional 10% contribution from the recent ticket sales of the America 250 Dogwood Festival Carnival.
Historically, local sponsoring organizations that operate “fun-raiser” events during the annual Dogwood Festival return 10% of their event profits back to the Chamber of Commerce. These contributions, combined with seasonal booth rental revenues, serve as a vital financial baseline that keeps the historic festival running year after year, directly funding essential event overhead, regional advertising, and public promotions.
During the presentation, which also included Legion member Tim Hines, the organization doubled down on its community support by surprising town officials with an additional, separate donation.
The Legion members generously presented a second check for $2,000, earmarking the entire amount to support the Town of Orleans’ upcoming July 4th fireworks display. The annual holiday celebration is scheduled to take place at the Orleans Airport later this summer.
Chamber officials noted that the continuous, year-round generosity from Post #69 members remains instrumental in keeping Orleans’ civic celebrations vibrant and accessible to local families.
