SEYMOUR — Drivers tracking their evening commutes through Jackson County should prepare for detours tonight. The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) announced that maintenance crews will temporarily shut down a major interstate access point in Seymour for urgent roadwork.

Beginning at 8:00 p.m. tonight, the on-ramp connecting eastbound U.S. 50 to southbound Interstate 65 will be entirely closed to traffic
The overnight closure is required to allow crews to safely patch deteriorating pavement on the ramp. INDOT officials expect the repairs to take just one night, with the ramp scheduled to reopen by 6:00 a.m. Thursday morning.
However, state officials emphasize that this timeline remains highly fluid. Because asphalt patching demands specific dry conditions, the exact work schedule is entirely dependent on the weather.
This localized repair is part of INDOT’s broader, ongoing pavement rehabilitation initiative spanning multiple corridors across both Jackson and Scott Counties to improve regional ride quality and interstate infrastructure.
Work Zone Safety Reminder
With crews operating close to live traffic during low-visibility hours, INDOT is issuing a firm reminder to all motorists traveling through the Seymour area. Drivers are urged to:
- Slow down well ahead of the construction zone.
- Eliminate distractions inside the vehicle, keeping eyes on the road.
- Stay extra alert to shifting traffic patterns and the presence of highway workers.
Motorists are encouraged to map out alternate routes ahead of the 8:00 p.m. restriction to avoid overnight delays.
