BEDFORD — Emergency responders rushed to a local grocery store Saturday afternoon following a 911 call reporting a stabbing. However, arriving officers quickly discovered the nature of the emergency was entirely different.
The Bedford Police Department received an emergency call at 3:05 p.m. on Saturday, May 23, alerting them to a reported stabbing at the Priceless Hometown IGA, located on N Street.
Officers and medical personnel immediately swarmed the supermarket parking lot. However, upon locating the male subject in question, arriving officers determined that no violent crime or stabbing had taken place.
Instead, authorities confirmed the individual was experiencing a severe mental health crisis and was actively suicidal.
Thanks to the rapid response, officers were able to de-escalate the situation safely. The male was taken into protective custody without further incident and transported by medical personnel to a local hospital to receive immediate psychiatric care and evaluation.
