BEDFORD — Commuters in Lawrence County should prepare for significant travel disruptions starting next month.
The Lawrence County Highway Department has announced that a major bridge closure on Stars Boulevard will take effect at the start of June, closely coinciding with an upcoming state project on State Road 58.
Beginning Monday, June 1, the bridge on Stars Boulevard over Leatherwood Creek will be closed to all through traffic. The bridge is located just north of Boyd Lane and south of Miami Drive.
The road will be blocked off just south of the transfer station and at the north side intersection of Boyd Lane.
While through traffic will not be permitted, access to all adjacent roads will remain open for local residents and property owners.
Crews will be removing and replacing the bridge’s deck overlay. The project is expected to take 30 to 60 days to complete.
Upcoming State Road 58 Closure
In addition to the county’s work on Stars Boulevard, the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) is finalizing plans for a nearby bridge project that will further impact local traffic.
INDOT will be closing State Road 58 between Stars Boulevard and Shawswick Station Road to perform a bridge deck overlay of its own. State officials are predicting this repair will take approximately 75 days to complete.
An official start date for the State Road 58 closure has not yet been locked in. Local officials promise to release those details as soon as INDOT provides the final schedule.
