Straus Family Creamery recalls organic ice cream in 17 States over metal fragment risk

INDIANA – A popular organic ice cream brand is pulling several of its products from grocery store shelves across 17 states due to a potential risk of metal fragment contamination.

Straus Family Creamery has initiated a voluntary recall of select flavors and sizes of its Organic Ice Cream, according to notices released Friday by both the company and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The company stated that the recall targets a “small number of production runs” after discovering the potential presence of foreign metal material.

The affected ice cream has been on retailer shelves since May 4, 2026.

The recall does not affect all Straus Family Creamery items, but specifically applies to pint and quart containers of the following flavors within specific “Best By” date ranges:

  • Vanilla Bean
  • Strawberry
  • Cookie Dough
  • Dutch Chocolate
  • Mint Chip

Affected States

The company confirmed that the impacted products were distributed to retailers in 17 states. Consumers living in the following areas should check their freezers: Arizona, Illinois, Pennsylvania, California, Indiana, South Carolina, Colorado, Iowa, Texas, Connecticut, Maryland, Washington, Florida, New Jersey, Wisconsin, Georgia, and Oregon.

As of the writing of the recall notice, no injuries or adverse reactions have been reported in connection with the products.

Straus Family Creamery stated that they are actively collaborating with the FDA and working directly with grocery retailers to ensure all potentially affected containers are removed from store shelves.

Consumers who have purchased any of the recalled Straus Family Creamery flavors within the affected states are strongly urged not to consume them and to throw the product away immediately.
