Obituary: Kenneth (Kenny) Ray Archer

August 2, 1945 – May 2, 2026

Kenneth (Kenny) Ray Archer, 80, of Bedford, Indiana, passed away on May 2nd, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.

Kenny was born August 2nd, 1945, to John Kendrick and Elberta Archer of Pleasant, Indiana.  He was a proud United States Army veteran who discovered his lifelong love of golf while stationed in Germany. The game remained one of his greatest passions throughout his life, and he especially enjoyed the friendships and fellowship that came with it.  Kenny worked in the telecommunications industry for nearly 40 years and continued to work at the Bedford Jay-C until his passing.  He was also passionate about public service, a commitment reflected in his election as president of the Indiana Jaycees from 1979 to 1980.  He served in the Jaycees for many years, participating in many community service projects.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Diana, to whom he was married for 27 years. He loved his family deeply and is survived by his sons, Ryan Archer and his wife, Liz Archer, and Rob Archer; his adopted children, Sidney Downham, Miranda Downham, and Kaleb Downham; and his stepsons, Rob Downham and Brad Downham. He was preceded in death by his step-son, Bruce Downham.  He is also survived by his grandchildren, Maddy (Jonathan) McMurray, Carly (Dylan Menefee), Eli Smith, James Robbins, Zachary Archer, Lexi Archer, Devin Downham, Kelsey Curley, Jessica Moore, and great-grandchildren Nicholas Graham, Hailey Graham, and Evan Rogers.

He also treasured the many friendships he built over the years, especially at Shorty’s and the Bedford Boat Club, where he found companionship, laughter, and a sense of family among those he cared about most.  He will be remembered for his warm spirit, positive outlook, and love of life. His sense of humor and quick wit made everyone around him feel at ease, and he had a natural way of brightening every room he entered. He had a remarkable ability to find the good in every situation and to leave others feeling happier and better for having known him.

According to his wishes, Kenny was cremated, and his ashes will be spread at the places he held most dearly in his heart.  Private celebrations are being held in lieu of a funeral.
