SEYMOUR — A 60-year-old Seymour resident is facing multiple felony charges, including attempted murder, following an investigation into threats made against a local financial institution.
Fred W. Heckman was arrested on Friday, May 8, 2026, after patrol officers with the Seymour Police Department received reports of an individual intimidating and threatening both current and former employees, as well as others associated with the institution.

According to the Seymour Police Department, the investigation revealed that Heckman had made specific threats against the lives of several people. Investigators determined that Heckman had taken what was described as a “substantial step” toward carrying out those threats, leading to his immediate arrest.
While the investigation remains in its early stages, police have already filed several high-level felony charges against him.
Heckman was booked into the Jackson County Jail at 8:54 a.m. on Friday. He faces a total of seven felony counts: three counts of attempted murder, three counts of intimidation, and one count of intimidation of a law enforcement officer.
Court records from the same day also noted an additional count of disorderly conduct at the time of his booking. No bond has been listed for Heckman as of Friday afternoon.
Seymour Police officials stated that the case is active and officers are continuing to follow up on additional information. No further details regarding the specific financial institution or the nature of the “substantial step” taken by Heckman have been released at this time.
