LOOGOOTEE — The Martin County Alliance for Economic Growth is calling on local entrepreneurs to help shape a new initiative designed to jumpstart small business success in the county’s downtown areas.
The Alliance is currently exploring the creation of a business incubator space and has launched a countywide survey to gauge interest from current and aspiring business owners.
A business incubator is a specialized program designed to support early-stage businesses by providing them with more than just a roof over their heads. The proposed program would offer a supportive environment featuring professional mentorship, essential resources, and the networking needed to overcome the common hurdles faced by startups.

“The goal is to help businesses develop their models and products in preparation for a permanent brick-and-mortar location,” officials stated in the project announcement.
The incubator concept is designed to be “big enough to get started, but small enough to outgrow,” offering a low-risk environment for a wide variety of industries—from bakeries and boutiques to service providers and artisans. Key features include:
- Affordable Leases: A six-month low-rate lease designed to help businesses gain traction without the burden of long-term commercial overhead.
- Flexible Extensions: The option to extend the lease for up to one year to ensure the business has built sufficient momentum.
- Professional Mentorship: Access to guidance and expertise to help refine business operations.
- Growth Focus: A strategic focus on scaling businesses until they are ready to transition into their own independent locations within Martin County.
The Martin County Alliance for Economic Growth emphasizes that this project is intended to be a service for the entire community, but its implementation depends on the feedback and needs of local entrepreneurs.
Whether you currently own a small business or are simply in the “thinking phase” of starting one, the Alliance encourages you to share your voice. The feedback gathered from the survey will directly influence the resources provided and the structure of the physical workspace.
The countywide survey is now available here. Current and aspiring entrepreneurs are encouraged to complete the survey to share their interests and help bring this resource to the county’s downtowns.
