Full Speed Ahead: 2nd Annual Greater Indiana Slot Car Swap Meet brings racing excitement to Mitchell May 31

MITCHELL — Slot car enthusiasts from across the Midwest will gather in Mitchell later this month for the 2nd Annual Greater Indiana Slot Car Swap Meet, an event highlighting the growing resurgence of slot car racing and collecting.

The swap meet will take place Sunday, May 31, at Emerson Gym on North Eighth Street in Mitchell. The event runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., with an early bird admission period from 8 to 9 a.m. for $10. General admission is $5, while children ages 15 and younger will be admitted free. Concessions will be available for purchase during the Swap Meet.

The event will feature slot cars, model cars, and Hot Wheels collectibles, with vendors and hobbyists expected to attend from throughout the region. Organizers say the meet offers collectors and racers an opportunity to buy, sell, and trade items while connecting with others who share an interest in the hobby.

The swap meet is sponsored by Main Street Racing, the Mitchell Chamber of Commerce, and Lawrence County Tourism.

Slot car racing, which enjoyed widespread popularity during the 1960s and 1970s, has seen renewed interest in recent years. Advances in track technology, social media hobby groups, and nostalgia-driven collecting have helped fuel a comeback among longtime enthusiasts and younger generations alike.

Events similar to the Greater Indiana Slot Car Swap Meet have become increasingly common throughout the Midwest, drawing collectors of vintage racing sets, die-cast vehicles, and custom-built slot cars.

Organizers said several tracks will be available on-site during the event, allowing attendees to see slot car racing in action. Concessions will also be available.

Vendor tables are available for $25 each, with prepayment required. Set up for vendors and pre-show activities will be held on Saturday, May 30, at Emerson Gym.

Checks for table rentals should be made payable to Mark Dorman.
