FORT WAYNE – On Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at 8:20 a.m., an Indiana State Police Trooper was on patrol in the area of Dupont Road and Tonkel Road in Fort Wayne. As he was driving, he noticed a person performing CPR on another person in the grassy area near the Walgreens. He also noticed damaged vehicles.
Once at the scene, he assisted in performing CPR on the injured person until paramedics arrived.
After the initial investigation, it was determined that Ms. Bailey Carver, 29, of Swayzee, IN was driving east on DuPont Road in a red 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt. As it approached Tonkel Road, it swerved left, crossed all lanes of traffic, went over a raised concrete median, and into the parking lot of Walgreens before hitting a white 2024 Hyundai Tucson that was parked in the parking lot.
The person sitting in the white Hyundai, Kayla Brooks, 31, of Fort Wayne, was injured and transported to a local hospital. After emergency medical care was given at the scene of the crash, Carver was also transported to a local hospital by ambulance.
During the investigation, it was determined that there was reason to believe that drugs were a factor in the crash. Charges for Carver were forwarded to the Allen County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for review.
Carver was charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated, causing serious bodily injury, a Level 5 felony, OWI endangerment, a Class A misdemeanor, and OWI, a Class C misdemeanor.
The Indiana State Police were assisted at the crash by an off-duty nurse, Allen County Sheriff’s Department, Northeast and Huntertown Fire Departments.
Those facing criminal charges are considered innocent until proven guilty through a fair and due legal process. Accusations alone do not imply guilt; the judicial system will evaluate the presented evidence to reach a verdict.
