BEDFORD— A local man was taken into custody early Friday morning following a physical dispute at a Bedford apartment complex that reportedly began as a verbal argument over a vehicle.
Andrew Fischman, 34, of Bedford, was arrested on April 24, 2026, and faces a preliminary charge of battery with bodily injury.

According to a probable cause affidavit filed by Officer Taylor Daugherty of the Bedford Police Department, officers were dispatched to an apartment on Ted Jones Drive at approximately 2:33 a.m. Upon arrival, police encountered several individuals arguing in the parking lot.
One female resident told investigators the incident began when she heard her car door shut and saw Fischman entering her vehicle. She alleged that when Fischman attempted to enter the apartment, she tried to hold the deadbolt to keep him out, sustaining a minor cut to her wrist in the process. Although both individuals are listed on the apartment lease, the female asked Fischman to leave after a verbal argument ensued.
The situation escalated after the female contacted her son, who arrived at the scene with several friends.
Witnesses and the son reported that while they were speaking with Fischman on the staircase, he became combative and began pushing them out of the apartment.
A male acquaintance at the scene told police that Fischman struck him in the center of the face with a closed fist and spat on him, sparking a larger altercation among the group. The male reported pain in his mouth and right thumb.
Fischman sustained a cut to his forehead, a busted lip, and an injury to his nose.
Fischman provided a statement to officers, claiming he had been resting on the couch when the group arrived to speak with him, leading to the verbal argument that turned physical. While Fischman expressed a desire to press charges against the others, the male acquaintance signed a battery affidavit against Fischman.
Fischman was evaluated by EMS on the scene but declined hospital treatment. He was subsequently transported to the Lawrence County Jail. Police also provided information to the family regarding how to obtain a protection order.
All individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. This article is based on the information provided in the probable cause affidavit and does not represent a final determination of guilt or innocence.
