LAWRENCE COUNTY — Residents across Central Indiana are urged to remain weather-aware as severe thunderstorms are forecasted to move through the region this afternoon and into tonight.
The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch until 7 p.m. for Lawrence County and the surrounding area.

Meteorologists warn that the primary concern with this passing system will be damaging straight-line winds. However, the atmospheric conditions also support the following risks of isolated tornadoes. Heavy rainfall accompanying these storms may lead to localized flooding in low-lying or poorly drained areas.
The weather pattern is expected to persist through the week. Another round of thunderstorms is possible tomorrow, with the highest concentration of activity expected across Southern Central Indiana.
The potential for periodic thunderstorm activity remains for Wednesday through Sunday.
With the threat of damaging winds and isolated tornadoes tonight, emergency management officials recommend that residents:
- Secure outdoor furniture or loose objects that could become projectiles.
- Identify a safe shelter in the lowest level of your home, away from windows.
- Ensure multiple ways to receive alerts, such as a Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department app, NOAA Weather Radio, or a charged mobile device with emergency notifications enabled.
