BLOOMINGTON — The Monroe County Democratic Party (MCDP) has officially announced the appointment of Jane Silva as its new Executive Director, bringing over three decades of leadership experience to the organization as it gears up for the 2026 election cycle.

A native Hoosier and graduate of Indiana University, Silva is no stranger to the political landscape. Her career in public service began in 1984 as a volunteer for Jesse Jackson’s groundbreaking presidential campaign. That early experience sparked a lifelong dedication to the “greater good,” leading to a 30-year career spanning philanthropy, nonprofit management, and higher education.
Silva joins the MCDP leadership team with a diverse professional background that includes:
- Nonprofit Management: Decades of experience leading mission-driven organizations.
- Education: Serving the community through postsecondary teaching.
- Public Sector: Navigating the complexities of government and civic engagement.
“Jane’s passion is working with committed individuals devoted to making the world a more just and loving place,” the party stated in their announcement. Her arrival comes at a pivotal time as the local party prepares for the May 5, 2026, Primary Election and the subsequent General Election.
When she isn’t organizing grassroots efforts or coordinating with local candidates, Silva is an avid lover of the Indiana outdoors. She is a frequent hiker in Yellowwood State Forest and a self-described “fierce dog and cat mom.”
In a nod to her energetic leadership style, Silva’s colleagues noted that she has even been known to “day dance” when no one is looking—a testament to the positivity she aims to bring to the Monroe County Democratic headquarters.
Silva will be working alongside current MCDP Chair Chrissie Geels and the executive committee to support Democratic candidates throughout the county.
