FORT WAYNE – The Indiana State Police held their annual awards and recognition ceremony in Indianapolis on Tuesday, April 21, 2026. The ceremony publicly recognized the achievements and accomplishments that too often go unrecognized. Troopers were honored for their dedication, service, bravery, and devotion to the department and the citizens of Indiana.

During the ceremony, Trooper Jonathon Amburgey was recognized as the 2025 Fort Wayne District Trooper of the Year. This award is given annually to the Trooper who personifies integrity, professionalism, and a well-rounded work ethic. Trooper Amburgey was selected by the command staff at the Fort Wayne Post for his dedication to his job, traffic and criminal enforcement, community involvement, and other services provided by the Trooper that exceeded department expectations.
In 2025, Trooper Amburgey returned to duty after an extended absence from patrol. He worked nine months of 2025 and had 1287 traffic contacts, 53 criminal arrests (24 felonies), two OWI arrests, and 150 calls for service. More importantly, Trooper Amburgey has a positive attitude and work ethic that represent the Indiana State Police very well as he performs his duties. Trooper Amburgey has served with the Indiana State Police for 14 years and primarily patrols in Whitley County.
