BORDEN – Macee Nicholson and Adalynn Bailey sparked the offense as Bedford North Lawrence conquered Borden 6-4 during high school softball action on Wednesday.
Nicholson collected four hits while Bailey added three hits and drove in two runs, powering the Stars (4-12) to their second straight win and first road triumph of the season.
BNL took control with three runs in the third, and kept applying pressure with 14 total hits (leaving nine runners on base). Dalanie Davis and Kali McKee both totaled two hits for the Stars, who struck out only once against Borden hurler Audrey McMahon. The Braves were also guilty of four errors.
“The offense was nice to see, they came through in big situations,” BNL coach Brad Gilbert said. “We had a couple of innings where we did some damage.”
The Stars struck first in the first as Jaden Schofield singled, stole second and scored on Nicholson’s clutch two-out single. BNL added another run in the second as Bailey doubled to right, Davis singled, and McKee reached on an error as Bailey scored.
In the third, Sara Williams led off with a fly ball that was misplayed, allowing Williams to circle the bases and break a 2-2 deadlock. Nicholson followed with a double, Bailey cracked a RBI single, and Davis thumped a run-scoring double to right.

BNL added an insurance run in the sixth with a two-out rally as Nicholson, Karsyn Coleman and Bailey strung together three straight hits.
Borden scored in the first (Emma Hart’s RBI double), second, fourth (McKenna Mullen’s RBI single) and seventh. BNL pitchers (Nicholson, Sophia Jewell and Coleman) combined for 10 strikeouts.
“All three pitched well,” Gilbert said. “We kept them off stride and our defense played well.”
Mullen and Eva Eversmann had two hits each for Borden.
”Winning on the road is very important,” Gilbert said. “People thought we needed to schedule all home games. So it was nice to drive, play a game and get the win. And play well. We need that killer instinct where we play solid for seven innings, but that’s the only negative. A win is a win. We can’t be upset.”
BNL will return to Hoosier Hills Conference action with a road trip to Jeffersonville on Thursday.
